History

The first annual Seattle Open high school improv tournament, hosted by Wing-It Productions on November 12, 2006, was fabulous! Three teams, comprised of twenty-two students from 6 different high schools brought their unique talents and improv stylings to the Historic University Theatre for a night of laughs and learning. Wing-It productions developed this event as a free educational opportunity, open to any high-schooler in the greater Seattle area, giving teams from all over the city the chance to learn from one another, and to perform on a professional stage in front of a wonderful audience. In 2007 Seattle Open, Newport HS won the trophy.

Thank you to all of the teams who participated in the 2008 Seattle Open H.S. Improv Tournament! Congratulations to the Nova Project Improv team for their first-place win! They brought an innovative and well-executed original long form improv format to the stage of the Historic University Theater. Nathan Hale H.S. performed fast and fun short-form, showcasing strong teamwork and a uniform style. Most impressively, making their debut as an improv team, the "Woodiak" improvisers truly embodied the spirit of the Seattle Open, bringing smiles to all of our faces. Originally Kamiak H.S. and Woodinville H.S. were competing as individual teams, but as the weather forced many of their teammates to head home early, the two teams united in the improv spirit of "Yes, and!", demonstrating true sportsmanship and friendship.

Thank you again to all of the participants, coaches, teachers, parents, and friends that supported this event! We are always in awe of the creativity and compassion these talented young improvisers showcase each year. This year was particularly magical!
